7 Best Budget Friendly Snacks for Kids
Fruit
I know that produce doesn't always fall into the category of “budget friendly” BUT I disagree!! If you buy fruit each week that is on sale and is a loss leader at the store you can get it for a great price! Aldi typically always has low priced fruit too. Fruit is a healthy snack for kids and it can go a long way especially with younger children. You can also freeze any fruit that is getting ready to go bad and use it in smoothies. My kids love when I make Peanut Butter and Banana Bites for snack time…YUMMY!

Pretzels
Pretzels are typically really cheap to buy at any store. I can get a huge bag of pretzels and feel good feeding them to my children. Pretzels are a healthier alternative to chips. My kids love to dip pretzels in peanut butter, yogurt or eat them as part of a homemade snack mix.
Popcorn
First off, remember that popcorn can be a choking hazard for younger children. We love to make air-popped popcorn and it is a healthy snack. We buy popcorn seasonings and each child can pick their favorite. Buying bags of popcorn kernels is very cost effective! A bag will last a long time. I also love to make popcorn balls or snack mix with the popcorn I pop. I also find great bargains on microwave popcorn now too.
Peanut Butter and Jelly
Peanut butter and jelly are a combo that can't be beaten. Most kids love this flavor duo and it is inexpensive. I make peanut butter and jelly quesadillas for a fun twist on an old favorite. Sandwiches work fine too for a quick snack that is filling. It is also fun to use the peanut butter for Monsters on a Log for a special snack day.
Oatmeal
I know I told you that oatmeal is one of the best pantry essentials for a budget. It is also a perfect item to keep on hand for hungry little snackers. My kids enjoy eating oatmeal for more than just breakfast. I cut some fruit up and it makes a wonderful snack. Some days I will use the oatmeals and make 5 Ingredient Granola Bars. These are perfect to take to the park for an on-the-go snack.
Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
Mozzarella cheese sticks are a healthy snack option for kids. I try to buy these in bulk at Sam's Club or Costco because it really is cheaper. A big bag will last us for a while. These are the perfect snack when we are running errands or heading to the zoo. It is also easy to make them into delicious baked mozzarella sticks for a special treat.
Yogurt
Yogurt can be a budget friendly snack idea. I don't advise buying the individual containers unless you find an amazing deal. I like to buy the large tub of yogurt. My kids will eat it plain or with fruit or granola mixed in. We also use it for smoothies often!

Good list! My mom was big on pretzels when my brother and I were little.
JuggerBaby is obsessed with oranges, and especially clementines or tiny mandarins that ze can peel, and raisins. We buy raisins by the pound and the oranges from the local produce shop – and it doesn’t cost more than $6 a week. Ze also LOVES yogurt, we mix generic plain yogurt with the flavored yogurt so it goes further, and add a side of graham or wheat crackers.
