Stewed Puerto Rican Pork Chops or Chuletas Guisadas are fast and easy to make in your Instant Pot. With just five minutes of prep time, this hearty dish will be ready to eat in less than an hour. The best part is that it's all hands-off cooking!
The recipe is a marriage of Spanish flavor with the convenience of an Instant Pot. The dish can be served over rice or in sandwich bread buns and will leave you feeling warm all over!

Here’s how to make this Instant Pot Stewed Pork Chops.
Let's begin by gathering all the ingredients!
- Pork Chops
- Sofrito
- olive oil
- medium onion
- green pepper
- red pepper
- can of diced tomatoes, any flavor
- bay leaf
- a packet of chicken bouillon packet
- can of tomato sauce
- a packet of Sazon
- garlic cloves
- water
- Salt
- Pepper
Now that we have all our ingredients let's make this delicious Puerto Rican Stewed Pork Chops!
Press the Saute button and add the sofrito, olive oil, onions, garlic, red and green pepper and stir well for about 3 minutes.
Once you smell deliciousness, add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, sazon, chicken bouillon, and mix well for about another 3 minutes.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
Stop the Saute mode on your Instant Pot by pressing the cancel button.
Press the Manual button or Pressure Cook button on newer Instant Pot models for 20 minutes* and natural release.
*Now I use bone-in pork chops I also like enjoy my pork chops to fall off the bone. For boneless pork chop, we recommend 10 to 15 minutes natural. Keep in mind that the more you make the longer it will take to cook.
Your Instant Pot Puerto Rican Chuleta Guisada is ready to serve! You can serve this over white rice or orzo.

Instant Pot Chuletas Guisadas / Stewed Pork Chops
Puerto Rican food is largely influenced by African, Spanish, and French cuisines.
However, with a heavy emphasis on pork dishes, Puerto Rico's most popular dish is Chuletas Guisadas.
This stewed pork chops dish can vary in taste from soup to dry with more or less sauce depending on the region of Puerto Rico where you are eating it.
It typically has vegetables such as bell peppers, onion, garlic cloves, and tomato sauce that cook down into a thick gravy for the meat to simmer until tender while rice cooks separately.
Ingredients
- 6 – 8 Pork Chops
- 2 Tbl of Sofrito
- 1 Tbl of olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 medium green pepper, diced
- 1 medium red pepper, diced
- 1 can of diced tomatoes, any flavor
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 packet of chicken bouillon packet
- 1 can of tomato sauce
- 1 packet of Sazon
- 2 cups of water
- Salt & Pepper to taste
Instructions
Press the Sauté button on your Instant Pot and give it a few minutes to warm up.
You can brown your pork chops if desired. Brown for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side and remove it from the Instant Pot. You will have to repeat the process depending on the amount of meat you have. Once you have browned them all, please remove them and set them aside.
Add the sofrito, olive oil, onions, garlic, red and green pepper, and stir well for about 3 minutes. Make sure if you browned the pork chops, you scrape the bottom of the pot to incorporate the flavor of the browned pock chops.
Once you have incorporated the ingredients, add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, sazon, chicken bouillon, and mix well for about another 3 minutes.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Close the Instant Pot and turn the know to Sealing.
Stop Sauté mode of your pot, but canceling.
Press the Manual button or Pressure Cook button for 20 minutes and natural release.
