Ensure it’s a nice space to be in

The first thing you need to do to appreciate being at home more is to ensure it’s a nice space to be in the first place. In order to do this you want to decorate it to your taste and accessories it with things that not only compliment the space but also make it feel like home. If you dread walking through your front door because you live in a cluttered or cold house, it can be very difficult to want to spend time there. Put the work in and it will really make a difference in the way you view the space.

Have a separate work space to differentiate relaxation and work

If you are lucky enough to work from home, it can be easy to just work from your dining table or sofa. You might not have a dedicated space and this can mean you feel like you’re in your work zone no matter when you are at home. This can make it very difficult to relax and really enjoy your house as you would do otherwise. To stop this from becoming a problem, you’re going to want to create a separate work space to differentiate relaxation and work in your mind. Try and have a home office if possible, but if not, clear away all traces of your work once the day has ended so the space feels much nicer.

Make fun days at home

With so many things to do outside of the house, it can be tempting to be out and about most of the time. Not only can this be expensive and draining, but you’re also missing out on all the fun things you have to do at home. Why not have a movie day where you just relax and eat your favourite foods for a day? You could do some art and crafts, or why not teach yourself a new hobby? You could learn how to do a braid, how to sew or even hone in on your cooking skills should you fancy. These are just a few fun things you can do at home that you might not otherwise.

Keep it as tidy as you can

A tidy house makes for a tidy mind so you want to try and keep on top of any mess that builds up before it gets too bad. When you’re constantly in and out for work, dropping the kids off or have a family home in general, it can be very easy for keeping tidy to just get out of hand. Try and have an organisational system in place with plenty of storage so everyone knows where things need to be. If you’re looking to improve your home, you should have a big declutter, getting rid of items you no longer use or that just don’t bring any value to your life. This should make it much easier to keep clean and tidy.

Have friends and family round

A house is turned into a home when you have more people to enjoy it with and make memories. If you find your house feels a bit empty, try and focus more on having your friends and family round. You could do parties, have them round for dinner or drinks, or just for a coffee every now and then. It’s these small things that can make a difference and create memories you can look back on when you’re at home and reminiscing. Be sure to put plenty of photos up on the wall of all your good times too! This makes it a more fun and positive space for everyone to be in overall.

Enjoy cooking and eating at home

Food and drink is one of the most important things in life and is not only the fuel we need to live and thrive, but also something that brings joy and happiness. When looking to appreciate being at home more, cooking is a brilliant way to do this. Not only will you learn a whole host of new skills, but you’ll also fill the home with delicious scents and get to enjoy something truly delicious (well hopefully anyway!) at the end of it.

You could cook everything from savoury or sweet snacks, to meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You could also look into cooking as a family or with your other half, getting others involved is a nice way to have fun and also learn more about their days.

These are just a few things you can do that can really help you to appreciate being at home more and just generally love the space you’re in. When it comes to making the most of what you have, sometimes you just need to look a bit closer to home – quite literally. Make an effort to stay in when you might otherwise go out, ensure your home looks beautiful and is a relaxing sanctuary to stay in and cook meals that are fun to prepare and eat.

You should remember to appreciate the place you’ve built and put together and try to just cherish the times that can be had there. What are some top tips you have for appreciating being at home more? Let us know in the comments below – we’d love to hear from you and get inspired.
