- A handful of cilantro leaves
- Water (optional)
This air-fryer Salsa Verde releases a burst of tangy, spicy, and fresh flavors. The tomatillos lend a unique tartness, the jalapeno or serranos introduce a spiciness, while the onion and cilantro hint savoriness and freshness, respectively.

How To Make Salsa Verde In The Air Fryer
- Start by preparing 1 lb. of tomatillos – they should be peeled and rinsed. You will also need 1 large jalapeno (or 2 serranos if you prefer a spicier salsa), and half a small white onion.
- Take your air fryer basket and place the tomatillos, onion, and pepper into it. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you might need to do this in batches.
- Close your air fryer and set the temperature to 390 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook the ingredients for 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, open the air fryer carefully. Remove the tomatillos and place them in a small bowl. If your jalapeno has softened and browned a bit, go ahead and remove it from the air fryer as well.
- Leave the onion in the air fryer, but flip it over. Set the temperature back to 390F and the time to 3 minutes. Once the time is up, check the onion. It should be soft and slightly browned on the edges.
- Allow all the ingredients to cool down before proceeding. Once they have cooled, place them in a blender. Add a large pinch of salt and a handful of cilantro leaves on top.
- Don't forget to add any liquid that was released by the tomatillos while they were cooling down. Then, blend everything together until you achieve a smooth salsa texture.
- If you want a thinner salsa, you can add a bit of water. Taste the salsa and add more salt if needed.
Now, your homemade salsa verde is ready to enjoy! This recipe yields approximately six servings. Make sure to share a photo of your creation on Pinterest and leave a comment on the blog. Enjoy your cooking adventure!
How to Store Sala Verder:
This air-fried salsa verde can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The flavors will intensify over time, so adjust the seasonings accordingly when serving leftovers. You can also freeze it for up to three months, but make sure to thaw it before using.
Can You Freeze Salsa Verde?
You can freeze salsa verde to extend its freshness and enjoy its vibrant flavors even out of season. When freezing salsa verde, pour it into airtight containers or heavy-duty freezer bags, leaving some space for expansion. It's best to use it within 3 months to maintain the best quality, although it will remain safe beyond that time.
Thaw the salsa overnight in the refrigerator before using. Do note, however, the texture may change slightly after freezing and thawing, with the salsa becoming a bit more watery. A quick stir or an additional spin in the blender can help restore its consistency. This method is perfect for making large batches and ensuring you always have some on hand to enhance your meals.
Additional Tips:
- If you don't have an air fryer, simply roast the tomatillos, jalapeno, and onion in a preheated oven at 400F for about 15-20 minutes. The end result will be just as delicious!
- For a creamier salsa verde, add a quarter of an avocado when blending the ingredients together.
- This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for a larger batch.
- Adjust the spice level by adding more or less jalapenos or serranos.
- Use this salsa verde to add a burst of flavor to grilled meats, tacos, nachos, and even eggs!
With these tips and tricks in hand, you're now equipped to make an unforgettable air-fryer salsa verde.
Note: For best results, use this salsa verde within the first few days of making it.
And there you have it. A fresh and zesty salsa verde made right in your kitchen with the help of an air fryer! Easy to make and delightfully delicious, this salsa is perfect for your next taco night or fiesta. Use it to spice up your dishes or simply dig in with your favorite chips.
